Doha, Qatar 2008 – Media and Dialogue

February 2008: ResetDoC international activities continued with a new annual conference. Intellectuals, politicians and mass-media experts from all over the world gathered in Doha, Qatar in order to discuss “Global Media between Dialogue and Clash. When Enemies Boost the Ratings”. The aim was analyzing the effects of TV on the understanding among peoples of different cultures, verifying the distortions brought about in the Other’s images by news fragmentation and dramatization, as well as political partisanship and prejudices, and, ultimately, identifying new proposals. The conference was organized in cooperation with Georgetown University. Among the participants, Giuliano Amato, and the former Minister of Domestic Affairs of Germany, Mr. Otto Schily, Ibrahim Helal, AlJazeera deputy managing director, Arab scholars such as Ashraf Galal, Mehran Kamrawa and Mohamed Zayani, Italian scholars Giancarlo Bosetti, Daniela Conte and Paolo Mancini, American experts Lawrence Pintak and Steven Livingston. The Iranian movie-maker Hossein Dehbashi presented a documentary on the war as seen by Arab tvs and by big international networks.
