How to register and participate in the seminars

The Istanbul Seminars 2010 Organization extends a warm invitation to students, postgraduates and  researchers world-wide to participate in a week of philosophical meetings with some of the major intellectuals involved in the dialogue among civilizations, and who are committed to the issues of pluralism and democracy.

Last year, many students from France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Israel, Spain, the UK and the USA attended the Istanbul Seminars. This year, we want to encourage a greater participation by students, so please inform anyone you believe would be interested in attending the seminars. Participating students usually belong to the disciplines of Philosophy, Political Studies, Anthropology, Sociology and Comparative Literature, but students from other areas are most welcome.

If you wish to actively participate in the Seminar meetings and discussions, please complete the Registration Form (which you need to copy & print), and forward it together with the following:

-a brief CV

-a statement specifying that you do not already benefit from any type of bursary covering your travel and living expenses to participate in overseas conferences

a letter explaining how your participation in the Istanbul Seminars will advance your university career and/or your research (max 500 words)

-letters of recommendation (optional, max 2)

You can send your Registration by e-mail to daniela.dalmasso@unipv.it or fax to the following number: 0039- 0668807262

This year, we can provide some incentives to students through a partial financial contribution to enable their participation. However, since the number of students applying may exceed the available funds, we need to make a selection based on the relevance of the students’ study areas, and subject to approval by our Executive Committee. Please read the explanatory attachment.

PLEASE NOTE: Registration for the Istanbul Seminars closes on 20 April. If you are interested in obtaining a grant, please apply as soon as possible.

Tutorship: this year students will be assisted by a tutor. M/s Daniela Dalmasso (daniela.dalmasso@unipv.it) will meet the group before the lectures commence and coordinate their participation and encourage interaction between students and speakers.

Certificates of Attendance: Registration takes place at Istanbul Bilgi University before the commencement of lectures. At the conclusion, Bilgi University will issue a certificate attesting your participation. All students who attended the entire series of Istanbul Seminars will receive a Certificate of Attendance.

Anyone interested should contact claudia.durastanti@reset.it. However, due to the small number of available rooms, it is necessary to confirm reservations before 30 April.

Transportation: Besides the buses and other public transport, the SantralIstanbul Campus is accessible by the University’s shuttle service, which connects the university to the city.

Cafeterias and Restaurants
: Istanbul Bilgi University operates several facilities for the convenience of students and staff on its campus. The university cafeterias are popular and lively meeting places, both for a relaxing moderately-priced meal and social gatherings with friends.
