What a relief to see that the “I am Charlie” posturing is transforming into an “Are We Charlie?” debate. What we owe freedom of speech is not declarations of allegiance, but a good, preferably impolite, dispute. Otherwise we risk turning free speech from a tool of liberation to one of oppression.
