    In January 2011 large demonstrations in Cairo’s Tahrir Square were clamouring for the demise of President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak and its regime. Only a few months later the same Square hosted rallies asking for a prompt end to the rule of the Egyptian military, which had effectively removed President Mubarak. By the fall of 2012 we saw rallies against the recently elected President Mohamed Morsi, supported by the Muslim Brotherhood. In the last few weeks we have read about the first demonstrations calling for the return of military rule. The country seems still far from achieving a measure of political balance, and still searching for an anchor of stability.
