Who Belongs to the Demos? The Boundaries of Citizenship in European Democracies

In our globalized world, cultural pluralism is a matter of fact. As a result of widespread migrations, people with different values, cultural backgrounds, languages and religions live together within the same social context: they carry out their everyday activities side by side and share public spaces, from their children’s schools to political and legal systems. It is therefore necessary to rethink the traditional concepts of citizenship. A new political culture that is more open to differences and more inclusive, has to affirm itself in the lives of citizens and in our democratic institutions.

The project “Towards an Inclusive Citizenship” wants to promote a new culture of dialogue and integration, paying particular attention to the case of the European Union. To this aim Reset-DoC invites citizens, students and researchers to a series of conferences with philosophers, historians, social and political scientists who will tackle the demands of multicultural societies from different perspectives.
