The integration of citizens who belong to different cultures within the same community gives rise to more and more intense debates. But also the relationships among States are more and more dominated by cultural issues, as Samuel Huntigton already noticed in 1993. Magazines and newspapers of the world discuss about it. A selection of those papers that are more attentive to dialogue among civilizations.
Signandsight
Signandsight.com is the English version of the German online culture magazine Perlentaucher, one of the few independent online magazines in Germany. signandsight.com provides a lively and informative view of cultural and intellectual life in Germany. In Today's Feuilletons, which appears every day (Monday-Friday) at 11am, summarises the highlights of the cultural pages of the major German language newspapers. Where possible, they link to the articles themselves. In the Features section, they publish a selection of especially interesting articles in English translation: two or three a week. Books this Season is a selection of the most interesting and most discussed (for better or worse) recent literature. signandsight.com offers translations of German feuilleton articles into English.
Dissent
Dissent is a quarterly magazine of politics and culture edited by Mitchell Cohen and Michael Walzer, and it is based in New York. In the words of the New York Times, Dissent "ranks among the handful of political journals read most regularly by U.S. intellectuals." Close to the left, Dissent is a magazine of independent minds and welcomes the clash of strong opinions. Founded in 1954 by a group of New York Intellectuals, notably Irving Howe, Dissent announced in its first issue that, "The purpose of this new magazine is suggested by its name: to dissent from the bleak atmosphere of conformism that pervades the political and intellectual life in the United States...".
